Dripsey ambush monument

The Dripsey ambush monument can be found Between Dripsey and Coachford villages on the right hand side of the road.

IMG_0035 The plaque beside the monument reads:

“The obelisk on this site was erected as a lasting memory to the members of the sixth battalion First Cork Brigade Irish Republican Army whose names are inscribed thereon they were captured while engaging British Forces on Jan 29th 1921. And executed in Cork Prison on Feb 28th 1921. Captain Jim Barrett Died in Cork Prison on March 22nd 1921 Patrick O’Mahony Timothy McCarthy John Lyons Daniel O’Callaghan Thomas O’Brien
